*Indeed! I agree with Flippy somewhat that responding only stokes the flames even more. I have seen your posts while browsing and I will say that it's seems its a bit difficult for you to 'let it go' per say; which causes a lot of your statements to come off antagonistic as you keep pushing. This will lead others to respond in turn and just cause it to spiral.
*I'd say just relax and take a breath! These internet points on a niche part of the internet means nothing. If multiple people disagree with you that's fine, just step away and leave it alone. Even if you think you have the best way to do things it's not worth your headspace being mad about it if others disagree. Sometimes there might be a good reason for people to disagree that you might not think about, or it's something that means more to others than it does to you (or vice versa).
*I have a close friend on the spectrum and it is hard for them to understand other people's perspectives. They tend to get mad when other's don't agree with their ideologies, and they end up going into flame wars. There are many reasons for people to feel or say things that you might not understand, either for very good reasons, or just to try and egg you on on purpose so you get mad and make a fool of yourself.
*Just remember, when you feel yourself having the urge to come back and keep defending yourself, just breath and leave it alone. It's okay! Don't let minor inconveniences overwhelm you.

Reputation issue and user conduct. -
Reputation issue and user conduct.@PrIsMaTiSm *Oh dear, I was trying to be a little deeper about it but it didn't quite hit.
*The bottom line about this situation is when you don't back down from things like trying to help when nobody asked for the help, especially when it comes off as nagging, you annoy others a lot. You were caviling, which caused you to get downvoted, people argued against it (and some made jokes), which caused them to get upvoted. People tend to upvote the things they laugh with, or agree with. (The other downvotes on your unrelated comments were probably leftovers from the argument you already had in the same sub.)
(I also don't see the double standard you mentioned here, as this is an issue I've only seen with you. Every blatantly rude comment towards an innocent member I've seen have been downvoted like -11, which has only been a couple. Every other nice comment gets upvoted.)
*When you're disliked you're not being conspired against or being harassed by the evil forum goblins. Step back and think why this is being caused in the first place. Maybe your good intentions were unintentionally stepping on others toes, and you built a reputation from that.
*That's all the advice I can give and will be the last I personally mention of this.
As another random fellow member of the internet I cannot force you to see other's perspectives or show how your words effect people. That's something you have to kind of learn by how people respond to your actions. -
Remove downvoting?*While there's many reasons for getting rid of it, we should be aware of the positives of having them around:
-
Quality Control: The primary reason for having a downvote feature is to ensure content quality. By allowing users to downvote, you empower the community to collectively filter out irrelevant, misleading, or low-quality comments. This helps new or casual visitors quickly identify the most valuable feedback or insights.
-
Feedback Mechanism: Downvotes serve as a non-verbal feedback mechanism. Sometimes, a comment might be factually incorrect, misleading, or not constructively framed. Downvoting such comments sends a clear message to the original poster about the community's perception of the content, encouraging them to either clarify, modify, or delete their comment.
-
Balance and Fairness: An upvote-only system could lead to an artificially positive environment where only agreement is visible. The presence of downvotes provides balance. Seeing both upvotes and downvotes can offer a more holistic view of the community's perspective on any given comment.
-
Deterrence against Trolling or Spam: Knowing that inappropriate or off-topic comments can be downvoted can deter users from posting such content in the first place. A system where only upvotes are allowed might not discourage trolling or spam as effectively.
-
Encourages Thoughtful Participation: Knowing that a comment can be both upvoted and downvoted often encourages users to think more critically before posting. They are more likely to ensure their comments are meaningful, relevant, and constructive.
-
Community Self-regulation: Downvoting allows the community to self-regulate. This reduces the burden on moderators or administrators, as harmful or irrelevant content can be pushed down by the community itself before official actions are needed.
-
Engagement: While it's essential to ensure the downvote feature isn't abused, the act of downvoting can increase user engagement. Users feel empowered when they have tools to express both agreement and disagreement.
-
Democracy in Action: Just as upvotes are a form of agreement, downvotes are a form of disagreement. By allowing both, you're giving everyone an equal voice, irrespective of their opinion, creating a more democratic environment.
-
Contextual Understanding: Sometimes, comments can be controversial. Having a blend of upvotes and downvotes on such comments can help new users understand the nuances or divisiveness of the subject, leading to a deeper understanding of the topic at hand.
*Personally I'm against getting rid of them, as we've seen the downsides when Youtube decided to cut their dislike feature. But I also understand that it's essential to ensure it's used responsibly. Measures can be put in place to prevent misuse, such as limiting the number of downvotes a user can give in a specific timeframe.
