Best way to trade without getting scammed?

Whats the best way to make sure a trade is successful? I can imagine it isnt hard to say "ill give u this for that" then not send anything back when you post the download link.

To be honest, the only way I have in-mind is to just have them send whatever they're trading first, like, asking, "Can you send it first," if there's any suspicions you have - If it starts going back and forth, then it's probably just not worth going on about. That's kinda the only way I can think of to prevent getting scammed while trading.
