Need help converting blender model to a vrchat avatar
-
yeah ima be real i have no fawkin clue what to do even with the video
Follow along as best as you can. You don't have to go the same speed.
When I used that video I also had no idea what I was doing.
But this is where I started.
Its okay if you need a break or get frustrated. I didn't figure it all out until I kept coming back. A total of 3 years.
Year 1 - Attempted without any help, had no idea what I was doing. Kept breaking the model like an idiot. Gave up every time because Blender looked like code to me.Year 2 - Came back because I really wanted this kind of model in VRChat. There were none like it and I was DYING to have it. (It was a female Tails if you must know. It was cute. Not sexual at all. Took it off a SA2 mod). Figured out about bones, but was scared of weight painting. I seen my friends do it and it looked exhausting. Gave up because I was overwhelmed.
Year 3 - Grit my teeth and search high and low looking for SOMETHING that could teach me what I wanted to know. How to rig and weight paint. Took me WEEKS to find it. It worked out for me. I followed the video like it was my guide to survival. I kept replaying it over and over again, learning, watching, drilling the information into my head because my memory is terrible. I worked on it every single day, trying over and over again. Slowly painfully weighting the model. I just wanted it IN VRChat. I didn't care about the bells and whistles.
Had an issue where the model's tail would be inverted. Inside out if you will. Took me a month to figure out how to fix it. Found a video that told me it was a face issue. (Shift + N) such an easy fix... I didn't know about shape keys yet, but I learned about eye movement and how to weight paint and rig, that was good enough for me.So, like I said: Its okay to take a break. I kept taking breaks and it was the world's most simplest model.

@yokai22111
No. But you could use it to try and do some weight painting. -

@yokai22111
Rigify? Oh no, the bane of my existence. You could technically use it, but you'd need a few things to get it working in VRC. Because what rigify does is that it adds rigs for animations, typically for blender. You can make animations for it inside blender instead of Unity if you wished as well, but you'd have to bake it into the Skelton or do what I do with animations and use CATS and change it into a shape key.
You'll also have to use something called... what was it? XPort or something? I dunno.
To remap the bones for VRChat so in Unity it'll select the correct bones and won't be confused.
Of course it'll still be trial an error. You may have to tweak or remove a lot of bones you don't really need.I personally never touch rigify, I much rather do things manually. That way if something breaks, I'll know what it is and I can fix it.

Working with blendshapes. There's no eye movement (missing bones), but she can blink and there's visemes for speaking.
Tomorrow I will make a post sharing this as a gift. I can't share it right now because her futa thing is clipping through the clothes, so I will wait for @alilrotten to teach me how to make toggles.
I'm very happy, it's my first avi and it took me a long time.

@ALilRotten Do you know how i would add physbones to the bones in urbosas project?
@yokai22111
Possibly. We tried to add some yesterday, but for some reason it wasn't working. I'll have to check it myself to see what is wrong with it. Right now though I have to work on my other projects that people have been waiting months on. -

I can't seem to get it working and I don't understand it. Your YouTube guide didn't really help me.
