Need help converting blender model to a vrchat avatar
-
I just happened to come up here to test my keyboard, but then I stumbled upon your post.
I have actually worked on several SmutBase models.
One of them was Midna: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pD5ypf3iMVY
I could help a tiny bit, but I'm not gonna work on it myself. What I mean by help is that I could teach you bit by bit how to fix it up and what you could do.
If you never worked on a model before or uploaded an avi or worked in Blender... I HIGHLY suggest not starting with a smutbase model. These models can be complex depending on who created them and what their intended purpose was. These models also end up scaring away people and overwhelming them when they have no clue what they're doing and end up giving up on Blender entirely. So before you even attempt a Smutbase model, I suggest if you haven't done anything in Blender before this: you should start with something more simple and easily manageable.
If you do NOT wish to learn Blender and just want someone to do it for you, then maybe someone else will come along and assist. I would do it, but I've already got a lot of models to work on and people to teach.@ALilRotten
You've got quite the reputation, Alil. -
@ALilRotten do you know a site i could get easier models on? i still want to be able to work on a mommy like model

I do actually. Sketchfab. Find any simple humanoid model with or without rig, texture or no texture and use this video to learn a little bit about rigging and weight paints.
I used this video myself when I first started and I found it easier to follow than the other ones I had looked at before.Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZBLtooU2Cs&list=PLjE7-SPufMd9tjuWg29mOZfpyKymSd_A3&index=39

@yokai22111 I've been working on it for the past few days, but it's my first time doing something similar so I'm learning as I do it. If someone else who is more capable than me is interested on helping you then feel free
@anonberry how is it going lol

@yokai22111 I succeeded in making a prototype by searching up online the things ALilRotten couldn't teach me before. The final result was almost what I wanted, but it was frustrating and took me a long time, so I decided to wait until she can teach me.
Tomorrow is her free time and I expect that we will finish this together. If we do, I will make a gift post

@yokai22111 In any case, get CATS plugin installed in your blender, it will help you with visemes. You DON'T NEED TO MAKE THEM ALL, JUST vrc._aa, vrc.oh and vrc._ch

Follow along as best as you can. You don't have to go the same speed.
When I used that video I also had no idea what I was doing.
But this is where I started.
Its okay if you need a break or get frustrated. I didn't figure it all out until I kept coming back. A total of 3 years.
Year 1 - Attempted without any help, had no idea what I was doing. Kept breaking the model like an idiot. Gave up every time because Blender looked like code to me.Year 2 - Came back because I really wanted this kind of model in VRChat. There were none like it and I was DYING to have it. (It was a female Tails if you must know. It was cute. Not sexual at all. Took it off a SA2 mod). Figured out about bones, but was scared of weight painting. I seen my friends do it and it looked exhausting. Gave up because I was overwhelmed.
Year 3 - Grit my teeth and search high and low looking for SOMETHING that could teach me what I wanted to know. How to rig and weight paint. Took me WEEKS to find it. It worked out for me. I followed the video like it was my guide to survival. I kept replaying it over and over again, learning, watching, drilling the information into my head because my memory is terrible. I worked on it every single day, trying over and over again. Slowly painfully weighting the model. I just wanted it IN VRChat. I didn't care about the bells and whistles.
Had an issue where the model's tail would be inverted. Inside out if you will. Took me a month to figure out how to fix it. Found a video that told me it was a face issue. (Shift + N) such an easy fix... I didn't know about shape keys yet, but I learned about eye movement and how to weight paint and rig, that was good enough for me.So, like I said: Its okay to take a break. I kept taking breaks and it was the world's most simplest model.

@ALilRotten if the avatar already says rigged on it do i still need to rig it?

@yokai22111
No. But you could use it to try and do some weight painting.
