Community Update: Spam, Moderation, and Creator Support
-
Hey all,
Figured it was time for an update on where things stand with the forum.
ยOn the invite-only system
For anyone who joined recently and wondered why we locked down registration: spammers and bad actors were the reason. Open signups had gotten out of hand. Fake accounts, scam links, the usual garbage, all showing up faster than we could clean it up. Going invite-only wasn't something we wanted to do, but it was needed.
Dealing with spam and bad actors
Honestly, we can't fully stop this. Every filter or rule we add, someone finds a way around eventually. That's just how it is running any community online.
What we can do is make it harder and catch more of it automatically. That's what we've been focused on. A lot of you have probably noticed spam has dropped a lot compared to last year. The invite system plus some backend stuff we've been running is doing its job, at least for now.
AI moderation tools
We've been working on some automated systems to help enforce certain rules, taking some pressure off the mod team. It's slow going because we don't want to ship something that's going to misfire constantly and annoy everyone.
Before we roll any of it out properly, we want to know how people feel about it. Some folks love the idea, some hate anything with AI attached to it. Both are fair.
About holding back creator assets for a week
For certain creators, we've started waiting about a week after a release before files go up on the forum.
The thinking is that these aren't big companies with deep pockets. Posting files the same day something drops feels a bit wrong when you look at it that way. Waiting a week gives them some breathing room, and nobody is really losing out, you still get the files.
It's a compromise, not a perfect fix. If you think we've got the timing wrong or the wrong approach entirely, say so. We're still figuring out where the line should be.
We really want your feedback on this one. Right now this only applies to a small handful of creators who actually reached out to us directly. Before we think about expanding it or changing how it works, we want to hear from you. Does this seem fair? Too long, too short, wrong idea entirely? Let us know in the replies or in Suggestions.
Future updates
We've also got a few things in the works behind the scenes. One of the bigger ones is Topic Boosting, which is meant to replace the whole "bump" and "+1" reply thing that clutters threads without adding anything to them. Instead of posting a useless reply just to push a topic back up, you'll be able to boost it with one click. The topic gets its visibility, the thread stays clean. There's already a dedicated post about it here if you want to read more or leave feedback.
Other stuff is in progress too, some are small quality-of-life changes, some of it bigger. We'll share more as things get closer to being ready. If there's something specific you've been wanting to see, drop it in Suggestions.Lastly
The forum's in a good place. Activity is up, the quality of posts is better than it used to be, and that's mostly because of the people who show up and contribute. So thanks for that.
We're always happy to hear what you think. If something's off or could work better, let us know. Everything gets read, even when we don't reply.
Thank you for being a member!

I like this idea, it's a nice compromise and I'd even support a 2 weeks grace period instead one 1 week

@moomoocow idk i get wanting the creator to make money from the thing they make but i think waiting two weeks is a bit much only because the creator will have the people who will pay regardless if there is a shared on this site and if the creator had a say in it it would feel kinda odd since its RIPPERSTORE i feel like it should not matter if something is shared fast

Regarding asset publication delays, I'd like this system to be more open. So that users can see authors' requests to delay their work's publication (either in a separate, shared thread or in paused threads). Since it currently feels like a "closed group for insiders," that's not a good idea. A week is perfectly fair, in my opinion. However, I believe that the delay duration (or even the existence of a delay) should be determined by users based on their attitudes toward specific authors, through voting. We have precedents where many supported publication delays, and authors have even appealed directly to users. I'd really like to see some progress in this direction.

I don't see the idea behind waiting a week to get a file of an avatar just so the creator can get more money, cause honestly It's ripperstore, what good is ripping a file for everyone, and It's still not a good thing anyways so I guess this could take guilt off of it somewhat anyways?. I feel like the idea behind making it so the creator can get more money is a nice idea and a good thing, but what is the point if they still don't want their avatar being ripped in the first place It's still going to make them lose money either way. It's understandable why they may have thought this is a good thing and that's completely okay, but in my opinion I just think it is kind of useless.

so... the invite only account stuff, does that mean that we have to invite friends so they can make accounts ?

As for the rule about waiting a week after publication, I think itโs reasonable. Itโs not something that will make our lives difficult, and it will also help avoid conflicts with creators. Itโs true that many of us resort to ripping precisely because the assets arenโt sold in our country or currency, but avoiding ripping during a short period when avatars are selling the most is mutually beneficial for both sides and is a valid way to show that we donโt want to steal, pursue or harm anyone.
I am by no means opposed to the creation of a code of conduct, and I believe most of us feel the same way, I just ask that a clearly visible and easily accessible section be created on the site with it. Thereโs no point in creating rules if theyโre hidden in posts like this one. Even if these rules remain in place and continue to be reinforced, new people like me keep joining the community, and itโs important that they be clearly visible so that we can be guided naturally.

@HolyMolay Itโs true that avatars will continue to be ripped, and I truly believe that a significant majority of those who rip them are people who would still buy the assets if they were accessibleโor wouldnโt buy them in the first placeโbut this is mutually beneficial for us. Creators will feel more comfortable and less disadvantaged

@anonberry Okay yes I see what you're saying, with in the time period we wait for an avatar to be shared, it will help avoid conflict with creators, but I don't understand how this makes them comfy if their paid avatar still gets taken either way. I guess it just depends on the person who makes the avatars and who wants it to be that way.

The one week delay is a good idea, but it depends on how you go about it. If someone gets outed as a pred, or awful things (With LEGIT proof, not hear say or out of context pictures) they shouldn't be given the option. If you only hand select, or those who reach out then you are playing favorites and it comes with even more drama. What about creators who don't know this website exists? (Shockingly yes there are a lot) The people who wont pay for it to begin with will wait the week, and those who buy will get it on release. So its not that bad of an idea. Then what about users who are unaware of this rule? Do you plan on filtering everything? I'm curious to see how this one pans out.
-
I think the 1-week delay is pretty fair, honestly. It gives creators some breathing room and avoids that โeverything gets dumped the same dayโ situation, while still making the files available not long after.
It feels like a reasonable middle ground between respecting smaller creators and keeping the forum useful for everyone. Testing it on a small group first also makes sense, since you can see how it plays out before expanding it.
Overall, Iโm in favor of it, very nice

In my opinion, the 24-hour cooldown for boosting is a bit too long.
waiting a week before posting files is an excellent idea and I fully support it. While the vast majority may disagree with me, we will still get what we want in the end; I see it as a very fair solution for both the creator and us (especially since those who truly love the creator's work will support them regardless of how they get the model). -

A quick and necessary note to add to my comment: since this rule applies only to specific avatar creators and not to creators in general, in my point of view it ceases to be something that benefits both sides and becomes a personal advantage.
If this rule is going to be implemented, it should apply to all creators.

I see that this rule has already started to be applied, so it should apply to all creators. https://forum.ripper.store/post/1746046

Overall, I am okay with the idea that there's a curfew on new assets, but it should come with a code of conduct centered on anti-consumer practices (and maybe certain ethical things that everyone realistically should be in agreement with) for creators who ask to be on that list, where breaking that code of conduct rescinds such protections. I don't think anyone wants to extend an olive branch to creators who are cunts to their paying customers, not wanting to reward certain types of conduct is why I came here in the first place.
It should also not result in LF threads being locked or deleted, only replies and posts where people post download links to the assets prior to the curfew ending.

@HolyMolay i thought this too, same with avatars from pedophile creators - what if they gain more money off of this update? i feel like this could potentially start killing off ripper forums from being as active, kind of how vrm started dying when they let anyone and everyone report and take down avis
