so, this is probably entirely a me thing, but i feel like trading on this site is just kind of shit. this site has become is just a leaker's haven, to the point where i've essentially started calling it the leaker.store forums, and i'm all for that. private uploads are private uploads, and still get a bit icked by people requesting rips of certain things, but whatever, that's the economy here. that's entirely off topic. i have a bit of a gripe with "trading" here, and it's not really much to go into, but i'ma do it anyway 'cause it's just a thing.

in my personal opinion, trades will just take away other peoples' willingness to share an item. for example, MOST people i see in trades nowadays are doing things for live2D models, which can often be insanely expensive and have a pretty good base of people who'd want to use them. thing is, with most people just sticking to trades, they don't get shared. at all. i can't even name the amount of times i'd dig through the looking for section, see a model i really liked, and then get disappointed when i see some guy showed up and offered a trade, and the person running the post doesn't wanna share it because of said trade.

personally, i think if you wanna do something like "i want this model in exchange for this one", it might actually be more likely you'll get someone to participate if you do it as a public reward. at the very least, i'd do it, and obviously i'm the main character who'll be the universal opinion on this matter. ~~for anyone who can't tell, that's a joke.~~ give me some of your thoughts, fellow leak enjoyers. maybe if enough people hate trades we can find some way to influence the way they're done.

I'm also not a fan of trading. I only use it when there is something I want that won't just be given. Trading is a second option to me it's completely optional. I wish people would be more up for sharing. I feel sad sometimes when I share a lot and don't receive much back. Not saying I will stop sharing I like helping people but I do feel some sort of sadness with not getting much of what I'm looking with it being locked though trading or maybe in general. This could be selfish of me to say maybe?

Oh it's also more sad with how much some people share here and those traders take what they share and not provide anything to the site at all. But there is not much that can be done with that.

i mean i can understand why people would wanna trade to the point where its useless gatekeeping, like a person i chat once wanted an asset and promised me some amazing animated guns and stuff like that, all the links were dead and im like...wow not even an answer anymore, you know what i just post the asset here to everyone cuz gatekeeping sucks ass. i mean we are all here for a reason, we either broke, the asset is way too overpriced for the shit it has or we all had very bad experience with expensive shit that just dont work (tod howard would love those peoples XD)

i've traded before and publicly shared models i got in trade. that's the only way i'll do it. i'd rather try and get models into hands of creators who are gonna do cool stuff with them. otherwise models end up not seeing the light of day.

At the end sharing is optional and trading sometines is only way to get what you want because not all people want buy anything, specially when only like 10% of people or less may contibute with content here, in my case if people I trade with want to share those models I have no problem but if they want to keep them private I respect their decision just don't be kind of person like "I made a post or bump give me model now".

i havent bought many avatars but i have added my share and i dont ask anything in return why? my external harddrive is filled with avatars thanks to this site and vrm. why do I have to whine if i spent 50 60 etc on avatar why cant i share it? i already benefit from people sharing anyways i save money on avatars am not sure i wanna buy etc. so is kinda stupid to even have a trading area here when most of the people have models from here and vrm to beggin with.
am currently waiting on a model to be made from Mayo to buy it then share it. like come on.

i never really understood trading, cause to me all it says is "hey, i want to be the only person with X, when you are literally increasing how many people have X and dont know how many the person you traded to will do as well for", meaning its just a slow round about way to doing what you dont want to do. like i understand wanting a specific avatar but if we were open with them in the first place, even if only in a dm by dm basis, things would be so much simpler and everyone would be happy, we give back to the community as the community gives back to us.

I think my bio states my views on trading pretty clearly, but it's good to see others taking this stance too. Trading has absolutely zero place on RS. It imposes a 'price' on an avatar/model/asset that enables someone to make a profit by imposing an often arbitrary, niche barrier of entry. We all signed up here with the desire to get assets for free. Trading is merely gatekeeping. Plain and simple.

I'm not about to launch a campaign or anything but I wouldn't be against it if the owners decided to make a rule banning this nonsense from taking place on RS.

@pepep i agree with a lot of what you've put in here, but i actually think the comment of "We all signed up here with the desire to get assets for free." may not be as accurate as one might think. i mean, C0de from the torinyan server's signed up so they can offer their thoughts and things to what is otherwise another market to target, being those who wish they could afford the assets and would buy them if they could who use this site. there's also likely a good few who signed up to interact now and then while also specifically using this site as another boothplorer, since that site is also kinda... eh. this entire post entirely off topic, but i think it's neat to consider other ways people use this site just as a concept.

but yeah trading really does feel like it just doesn't belong 97% of the time. it was probably started somewhere else as a "oh lemme do this to just get what i want while at least giving people a reason to give me what i want", and then it just became huge. needs to stop existing, i'd say. would love to finally see more live2D models and quality assets not just locked behind some guy and his kimono asset.

"Trading" virtual content makes sense in a world where it's a private conversation or those dark web pages with... - - .. where it is in fact illegal wih real world consequences, where it's really expensive to get into. The things here are not finite assets - being virtual - but with all expensive stuff, their value decreases the more common the person who has it sees it - supply vs demand thing.

In the real world today, it is almost never seen that 2 people want the opposite of what others has in tech/hardware stuff.

The community around these assets and leaking - not ripping because that's rare now - getting so open(hi Google) and so big - links here sometimes higher rated than the booth asset itself - buying one asset then expecting someone else to "trade" - essentially, buy you the other - that sounds like PMs where you both finance together, not a leaker/ripper store.
