how to gain reputation?

i would like to ask how i can gain reputation.
the count down for posts is really anoying so i am trying to get 2 reputation, only that i dont know how or what to do. -

getting upvotes like the others say but sometimes even when you give ppl items etc they want they dont upvote so is a gamble

You need at least 10 rep to upvote and not everyone has that. Especially if they don't add anything to the forum and just ask for things. So yeah they can't always upvote as a thank you
