Between feeling off about some asset store owners asking, pushing be more accurate, for custom fields to be accurate or be banned from their store, an email sent out by HerobrineSings the other day about this is a requirement or be banned from them, and other stores in their friend group, and...seeing a discussion of this on VRChat's Subreddit...figured a friendly archive of assets would be warranted.
I agree, by no means should a seller, of anything, threaten with not only a ban from their store, but blacklisted from others, just because the buyer chose to stay anonymous?
Minutes after I downloaded all the freebies, (FREE Items!), they sent out this email and screenshot.

As a consumer why would I give a single fuck about the reason for why they ask for my vrchat name or a discord account name ? They have no right to ask for that and I won't give it just out of spite. -

Normally I would just turn around and look elsewhere, but, they started the chaos with an email pushed out yesterday (I think, I've deleted the email since) aggressively restating their ToS, sent to everyone subscribed to their store. And they over-detailed each text field as if it's a sensitive and dangerous matter.I understand I wouldn't receive support, and that's what I chose.
So what if they ban my email, it's rather easy to whip up another temp email, oh wait, it doesn't matter, Gumroad doesn't verify emails before purchase.By no means should I be banned by multiple store fronts, just for keeping my identity to myself. No IRL stores do this, maybe across their brand, but not their neighbors. It's one thing if caught literally shop lifting, but again, these are FREE. There's no limit of how many are made, in which case I'm not denying others access.
And frankly, these are the FREE items on their store, why would anyone lose their minds over shared free items?
Free or not, over aggressive push for Accurate information, or be banned with no refund? Are you nuts? Must be, they still have the question asking for the old Discord#IDnumber. lol

Its pretty simple and a universally accepted standard by most all asset makers, businesses, services, etc

they dont need to protect it since its literally free ergo the whole argument for the feature in the first place is a moot point.
sides people do realize the name of the website they are on at the moment correct? if they really wanted to follow T.O.S so badly they wouldn't be here in the first place.

I'm mixed on either parties though for this in specific out of other creators that I've made purchases or gotten freebies. Seeing how this one setup their info does give off a bit of a off-putting vibe off the bat just by its demand for imputing the email and contact socials up to also verify the purchase. Ain't by business but ill just put this out there, they do have a old blacklist on them related to something back in 2022 for their old club "Club Blood Moon" but uh y'all can research it because i dont even know if it still exist because after the blacklist, the club shut down and transferred ownership to another club which that one also got shut down and transferred. They really arent a good person from just what ive heard from the past by their close friends whom arent around them anymore especially when there was a mention of them cheating on their partner at some point as well but unsure how true that was.

@CallidusFox Because this totally help with "asset rippers/redistributors/resellers" right , you know what let me just change my vrc name and discord name to crbuh21 so they know it's me when I buy stuff.
If they don't want to provide help because I didn't put the info they want then it's fair , I don't expect people to help when buying stuff , I fix it myself.
Just because it's a "accepted standard" doesn't mean it's good and I should go against my value to please them and do it , there's so many standard in place in the world I don't agree with.
So what , do you just do everything people tell you without questioning ?Also I don't remember whining about free asset , I just replied to someone with a retarded take on a topic.

@CallidusFox I have never, not ever once been asked for my discord or vrchat through booth, that is simply not true. It is not basic, nor normal for buying things. I would understand them asking for maybe my vrchat account at most to have a list of users permitted to upload their content, but discord is overkill and odd. But you're more than welcome to enable the strange gathering of info they literally don't need.

It's not that it's Booth, Jinxxy, Gumroad, or any other service.
It's the Creators/Sellers who are opting in to ask for Discord or VRChat names.
So they can contact you on Discord? Why? That's what HeroBrineSings said. I'd be less concerned if it were to verify the buyer's discord upon the buyer contacting the seller for support, which has been the common idea before.
To verify their asset on PlayerA's avatar was actually bought by them? Other than people change their display names, HeroBrineSings is the only one I've seen who asks for a URL to your profile.
And if any one of their three fields are inaccurate for what ever reason, they'll ban you? Hah, if the buyer goofed on spelling or copy/pasting, they lost out on support, simple as that, let the buyer make another purchase and the seller makes more money. It's not like I expect the seller to still be there in 5 years time.
While I'm all for them asking, and the buyer has the option to supply it, not only the fact the seller will otherwise ban the buyer's email, they'll inform more of their community to also blacklist your email.
Those fields should be optional. Which they are. Sellers shouldn't make a big deal that they made $5 on a sell, and the buyer didn't give any contact information, well that's just one less person to supply support to. And banning one's email? That's an ever so easy work around, it's all but an empty threat.

@Quizzo the cheating on the partner thing was completely false i will add. their exes was friends with a person who got upset they weren't handed a P2U asset for free (an avatar that herobrine owned, not created) and started a smear campaign that included calling them a zoophile for owning new age bad dragon stuff, calling them a cheater for photos that their partner approved of being taken, and then calling them a cheater for moving on from their poly partnership that had actively lead them on for over 7 months and was mentally manipulating them and pressured them to quit their IRL job. never heard of the club blacklist stuff, but the new stuff was started over them telling someone to buy an avatar if they wanted files for it lol, this situation was caused by an ex who got with herobrine for free avatar work I should add
ETA: Their old friend, called Phoenix, was outed as a racist right before herobrine cut them off. Phoenix then went to herobrine's at-the-time ex and lied about them doing more than the photos the ex approved of, and when it was found out, the ex and herobrine both cut off phoenix (Edited to clear up this section)

@captivity its a whole community, the biggest reason il admit is because people being petty and uploading their work here or even reselling their assets, im of the opinion that this site should be used against actually shitty creators, pedos, zoos, etc etc. but popular opinion is "hahah piracy against small makers who need money is fun" which is why those mutual blacklist communities exist. that and ripperstore never seemed like the place to bitch about people
