I GET the reason for Gonso, but I feel like only private/personal avi's should have it. Why sell something that the customer can't then... OWN and personalize for themselves? It's scum. Not only that, but a lot of theses, even if made from scratch, are extremely unoptimized. Look up how optimization affects not only other people but your own pc/hardware when playing VRC if you haven't, Avi's that are so insanely kitbashed, sold for 35+, locked behind gonso only to A) Track like shit with FBT and B) Clog up your vram and lag everyone who turns your avi on.
I guess you could make the argument that the avi's are for pictures only, then sure, but why would you make them so expensive and uncustomizable...?
Like you said, It's art. I've made a few avi's myself, spent hours editing other ones, and yeah it's hard and yeah sculpting your own head/creating your own textures in blender is a feat of it's own and deserves to be praised and appreciated, I do not disagree with that. Art in itself is a luxury, not a need, unlike groceries. The issue is, models aren't real paintings I can hang on my wall, or something I can keep forever and reuse however I want because I BOUGHT IT WITH MY OWN MONEY, they are weird limited collectables that serve no actual real life value, so why are they priced so fucking ridiculously?
40+ isn't worth it. I don't care how much shit you slapped together from scratch. It's pixels for a game that might not even be seen by other people, let alone worn for that long because the actual avatar doesn't track well or bricks low end hardware or straight up can't be seen by half the fucking player base without it looking disfigured OR is straight up fucking ugly in game but you don't actually realize it until after uploading so now it's 40 damn dollars down the drain.
Unfortunately, avatars like this one, aren't kitbashed slop like Kaiylast's avi's so he won't be touched or ripped for a long time. Sorry, no hate if anyone loves her avi's, but be real they are all the exact same just in different fonts for 40 fucking dollars a pop... And those ALWAYS get ripped first.
Creators need to chill the fuck out with prices if they don't want their shit ripped, maybe there is a reason people would rather wait weeks for it to be free than throw cash at something that is most likely literal copy paste garbage they've seen a million fucking times over. Why do they wait that long if it's garbage? Because they can always just delete the avatar after actually testing it out, or edit it because they fully own it, gonso be damned. They didn't waste 40 bucks on pixels they might not even like bc all the damn pics are blender renders.
