People went overboard for this avatar, especially the "limited exclusivity" which played a huge factor role (aka fear of missing out), causing a senseless carnage over an avatar, remember when the auctions started? The attention and interest towards this avi was soooooo overwhelming that the creators had to close down the server for 2-3 days, some of the artists were hacked during that period.
