shwimp oh I'm glad! I'd hate to make people upset just cus I'm in a grumpy mood. I'm just very passionate about this. I wasn't even made aware of gonso until a couple days ago in the comments of that huge post on the vrchat subreddit about information farming. I saw gonso over and over in the comments, looked it up and was horrified the more I looked into it.
It upsets me so much because they sell it like an innocent anti leak system, which is completely disingenuous, and people who don't know and get excited for an avatar enough to drop $50usd on something will not know they're downloading spyware that will be monitoring them and harming them. it punishes the wrong people. it punishes everyone who's ever supported them and that pisses me off a lot.
There is no vrchat creator on the entire platform that makes anything worth stealing IPs.
I have some hope if information, about WHAT gonso is, is spread then it'll completely change the situation. I don't think it'll take much before their trust in these vrchat creators is completely destroyed, and unfortunately it has to be. People need to know. I've made a point to tell absolutely everyone I know associated and not associated with VRChat what gonso is and what's happening and every single time it was met with absolute horror and absolute understanding of the gravity of the situation. The one problem is that creators will gaslight people to hell and back and will likely double down on the "these people are just leakers! its just anti leaking! only leakers have a problem with it!" to distract from the massive cybersecurity scandal they've caused. which im expecting to happen 100%.

If they can't copyright and put the avatar into a video game on steam, the content isn't theirs to begin with.

@scenerae Taking a compilation of mishmashed assets from other creators (kitbashing) and putting spyware on peoples computers arent comparable. One is massively worse than the other in my opinion. Kitbashers only make income because of OTHER people's work. I know of plenty of creators that will come here to get assets, download it, and then resell their asset complilation for profit.
One's a minor inconvenience to people, the other is a felony that could land jailtime since spyware is super illegal and causes a HUGE cybersecurity risk since these creators also abuse the information they're illegally farming through the spyware.

@thebigbaddawg we need some1 to do this for strawbunnys avatars (im not understanding its 1 am)
@scenerae just requires someone with the avatar to send link & set it to public for a bit so i can rip the vrca. I do think gonso obfuscates everything pretty heavily though so may be a lost cause and remaking the avatars would probably be rather annoying, idk, but could still get the fbx that way probably

@gnarpyy sorry if I double replied to you I'm insanely tired but wanted to reply. Yeah, that doesn't scream suspicious that people are looking into this and suddenly he wipes the evidence and gaslights.
I hope other people realize how suspicious that is. It's been there for all to see for a while but the moment people start investigating he deletes it and says it never existed? suspicious.
It's a shame, I should have archived it while I had the chance. this really sucks. I'm hoping and praying someone else did.

@gnarpyy No worries. it's insane they absolutely wiped everything because first they're saying "I never had a github" now they're posting their 'history'? I was literally reading the github yesterday, my friend was reading it too who's way more tech savvy than me and was also extremely concerned. How does he not realize this just proves his guilt that he's lying saying it never existed after wiping the github? Is there anyone that has screenshots or anything of the gonso github? I'm quite upset because I was going to log it yesterday but they beat me to it. What a piece of shit.
"I deleted the evidence, they're lying, see!" is not the display of innocence they think it is.
