@scenerae Do we know if ripping an uploaded avatar will be able to get the avatar without the gonso spyware? because surely it's not traveled into VRChat. If possible I wouldn't mind just having an archive of every one of these fucker's avatars's VRCAs.

I don't want to advocate for that if it causes a security risk to people though, at least until we know for sure. No shitty creator is that good to risk safety. Especially when 90% of these creators even strawbunny's basic bitch avatars look identical to each other if you squint. (I point that at the creator if she reads this btw, if you like their work thats fine I just dont like her). But still. I know people get attached, and its the principle.

Most of these creators slap on the same assets that can be downloaded for free or they find them here. (Lululemon used to just get leaked assets, slap it on an mmd avatar model and resell it for profit, for example), so they can a lot of the times really, REALLY easily be replicated because they aren't actually making anything except slapping things together in unity with vrcfury.

Off topic, but I don't believe for an iota of a second that they actually buy the shit they put on their kitbashes. I can't prove this, but I have a feeling. As greedy as they are with shit, as entitled as they are, and hostile, and shitty, I don't believe for a second they're perfect angels buying everything they're reselling. Like VexzCemetery who's got screenshots of them on VRModels. Or that other idiot FelisPasteles who had both a VRModels account and a Ripperstore account.

Sorry for the long winded writing. But yeah, I'd be careful if you proceed with that. kitbasher creators are obsessed with stalking down discords ;3 ugh

@blackviperxvi i AGREE. and to answer your question we have shiki who should be degonosoed? we have tally and shikis vrm files so far, im personally hoping to get my hands on bingus and doki
edit: adding on, since i plan on doing this for the sake of my own sanity and hatred for strawbunny (fuck you if youre reading this btw we dont want you here), i should be able to do it on my own so

@uwuowoawa sorry to double ping you, but I found it. I also added ibdi. Their newer avatars either they don't disclose it or they've stopped using it, but I don't care, they used spyware in the first place so they're going on the list and shouldn't be trusted for safety reasons, to anyone who reads this

Both Confusey and Zoxl have also used gonso. As far as I'm aware ALL of Confusey's gonso avatars have been decrypted and leaked, so is it even worth it paying gonsodany the money to lace your avatars?

To me it seems like some sense of false hope or security for these creators. Imo I think creators don't even care about their consumers when it comes to confiding in gonso. I mean these avatars can't even have edits or changed made to the FBX, the least you can do is texture edit- which to me is shitty because I love editing my avatars in blender.

The creators do it for themselves, whatever will help them sleep at night knowing the public won't get a paid file: at the cost of unsafe pcs of customers who aren't even leakers.

@scenerae Best of luck to you! It's a shame we can't test it somehow, perhaps by uploading it to a burner vrchat account? I don't know. If we can find a safe way to get past the gonso spyware that'd just be good for everybody

@shwimp If these people don't want people to edit the avatars, why can't they just sell it directly on the vrchat shop? its a way better solution than shilling out spyware. I have a hard time believing they aren't just doing it to feel dark and edgy, like stinky reddit moderators who like to get any leverage of power over others to completely abuse it.

In that video I posted in the top post here, I linked a video to a person talking about how they were put on mass ban lists and lost over 300$ worth of avatars from one shop because a different shop reported them over them helping their friend upload an avatar because they were new. They're 100% just doing it to farm information and use it to violently attack people because they can.

That's insane power to give someone. "I can see your IP and accounts, I can see what you're up to on your pc, what sites you go to, and I can weaponize all of it like a hardened criminal to try to ruin your life and destroy you as much as possible because I can."

These people are straight up pieces of shit.

@scenerae I wish jinxxy and payhip and gumroad knew it was spyware though. Might be good to make an expose proving its spyware somehow to show them but it'll be hard. unless we consistently report creators that use the gonso spyware. I can't even begin to wrap my head around how we'd do that beyond twitter and emails.

When I say expose btw I mean like, present them with proof in reports that it's spyware, since its sold as a simple "leaking protection tool" when we all know its not.

@blackviperxvi This is a very valid point. Though, I don't believe the point is to keep people from editing them. I know myself and many others have complained about the lack of freedom (editing wise) we get with the avatars.

But some creators definitely are piss babies over their avatars being edited to be "unrecognizable". So in that aspect, why not vrchat shop? My biggest guess is because they aren't getting the green directly into their wallets.

@shwimp I'd guess it's much cheaper to steal a bunch of people's assets, slap it on with vrcfury and upload it. I'm guessing its kinda like in high school when meangirls bully people because their parents don't love them so they take it out on everybody else to feel better about themselves. Except it's escalated into adulthood where they don't leave their houses and instead of bullying kids in school they're stealing peoples information and using spyware to gossip together and try to harm others for no other reason than they hate themselves. there's no good reason for it.

They can sell slop they stole from the real creators who make their kitbashes even possible for maximum coin. Vrchat shop probably also doesn't allow for kitbashes that just edit bases a little and resell, and probably doesn't allow all the avatars that want to sell copyrighted characters ripped from games and mmd models. that'd cut their profits to zero.

This ibdi avatar that uses the gonso spyware has a public link, by the way. I wonder if it'd be possible to find it and rip it to see if the gonso spyware is on it because I'd imagine if it did, when you go to reconstruct it the window for the spyware would pop up or at least show in the unpacked files if you look at the assets folder but that's just my guess.

I'm pretty sure these creators are also paying a hefty amount for gonso to even be put on it in the first place? Like 50 pounds, which is 55-65 in USD I think.

That'd make 2 protected avatars over 100 USD.

I guess the best way to beat this is, genuinely, spreading the word of what gonso is. Word spreads fast, information is power, and at the end of the day word of mouth is probably stronger than any work around or report to sites like payhip.

I'm pretty sure these creators are also paying a hefty amount for gonso to even be put on it in the first place? Like 50 pounds, which is 55-65 in USD I think.

That'd make 2 protected avatars over 100 USD.

@shwimp that's INSANE. that's a month of groceries for some people, geez. It shouldn't be legal to pay people to access spyware software to monitor customers. How do they even make a profit like that??? sheesh. doing all this research I've seen creators putting it on every single one of their avatars.

they could be using that money for better things... like buying magic the gathering cards. or spinning on anime gatcha games! lol

                                @shwimp

That's respectable. I'm glad they stopped at least. sorry for my harsh wording, I'm tired and also been dealing with this stuff for a week straight, lol. offtopic the shromp vtuber is cute as hecc

I guess the best way to beat this is, genuinely, spreading the word of what gonso is. Word spreads fast, information is power, and at the end of the day word of mouth is probably stronger than any work around or report to sites like payhip.

                                @blackviperxvi No worries, I didn't find it harsh .w.
It's respectable to be pissed over this kind of thing. I mean it's lying to people who enjoy your work, and that's just evil!
But yes, the most we can do is spread the word, and hopefully prove to these shitheads that their little hope system isn't all that great.

shwimp oh I'm glad! I'd hate to make people upset just cus I'm in a grumpy mood. I'm just very passionate about this. I wasn't even made aware of gonso until a couple days ago in the comments of that huge post on the vrchat subreddit about information farming. I saw gonso over and over in the comments, looked it up and was horrified the more I looked into it.

It upsets me so much because they sell it like an innocent anti leak system, which is completely disingenuous, and people who don't know and get excited for an avatar enough to drop $50usd on something will not know they're downloading spyware that will be monitoring them and harming them. it punishes the wrong people. it punishes everyone who's ever supported them and that pisses me off a lot.

There is no vrchat creator on the entire platform that makes anything worth stealing IPs.

I have some hope if information, about WHAT gonso is, is spread then it'll completely change the situation. I don't think it'll take much before their trust in these vrchat creators is completely destroyed, and unfortunately it has to be. People need to know. I've made a point to tell absolutely everyone I know associated and not associated with VRChat what gonso is and what's happening and every single time it was met with absolute horror and absolute understanding of the gravity of the situation. The one problem is that creators will gaslight people to hell and back and will likely double down on the "these people are just leakers! its just anti leaking! only leakers have a problem with it!" to distract from the massive cybersecurity scandal they've caused. which im expecting to happen 100%.

If they can't copyright and put the avatar into a video game on steam, the content isn't theirs to begin with.
