    🎖️ Historical Information: 🎖️

The Lahti L-39, aka the "Elephant Gun", was designed by Aimo Lahti in 1939 after being commissioned for a 20mm anti-tank rifle for the Finnish military. A roughly estimated 2,000 units were produced from 1939 to 1944. Each gun weighed approximately 108 pounds (49.5 kg) and took a 10 round magazine of 20mm ammunition. The 20x138mmB round was chosen in order to simplify logistics during war as the same ammunition was utilized for anti-air armaments as well. It began development prior to World War 2 as a relatively cheap alternative to counter enemy armored vehicles and tanks. However, the vehicles it was designed to counter quickly innovated with greater armor that proved too thick for the Lahti to effectively penetrate early into WW2. Nonetheless, the weapon was utilized throughout the Finnish and German military's as an effective, multi-purpose weapon against lighter armored vehicles or fortifications. Overall, it seen use in multiple conflicts including the Winter War, Continuation War, and World War 2 before officially being retired.
