A real answer (that sometimes works) is VRCX. If the avatar is public and the person does not have a custom profile picture, it can (most of the time) find the avatar for you. If it fails and you're sure it's public, look up the avatar in Prismic or on Avtrdb.com. If all that fails you might be SOL

@Volttekka thing as I tried searching up the avatar on prismix and I still got nothing this goes through the same way with every avatar I tried to search up because it's "private" but in reality it's actually public

@INSERT_NAME_HERE Going to be real, after EAC this isn't really a thing other than using VRCX like Volttekka said.. As long as the person doesn't have vrc+ it's possible. You can also just go up to the person and politely ask. You can also search for avatars in VRCX.

@tsurugi every time I politely ask they always gate keep it and it's annoying as hell despite the fact that its public I'm even if I try and search it up in prismics it just does not appear

@INSERT_NAME_HERE You're kind of out of luck in that situation, like I said try searching IN the vrcx app. EAC has removed the ability to use clients. Prismics doesn't document every single avatar, just a large amount of them. And searching can be sensitive based on if the creator uses symbols etc.
