Vrc is suspending people with NSFW avatars uploaded to their accounts

Hey everyone, idk if this is the right place to rant about this sort of thing, especially since all of y'all don't know who I am, but my Vrchat account has recently been suspended for 7 days for "Adult Sexual Activity and Nudity Guidelines." A few things that I would like to note

A. There are literal pornography videos of people having sex on Vrchat

B. There are COUNTLESS number of people that post NSFW models to VRC and I don't see anything happening to those people

C. I know that I'm probably not the only one who has gotten their account suspended as of right now

And also, I'm not making this post to gain rep or whatever the fuck it is called, I'm making this to, one rant, and two, to warn any and every one that VRC is taking down avis now for being NSFW, my avis are being taken down (so they said in the email they sent me), so please be aware of this and be careful...one more thing I want to say. Vrchat would rather take down all of the NSFW Avatars that are being uploaded/made by people with actual skill in Unity and Blender, instead of, oh I don't know...GOING AFTER PEDOS AND SEXUAL ASSAULTERS ON THIS PLATFORM. I HAVE HAD SO MANY OF MY FRIENDS BE SA'D ON VRCHAT AND NOTHING, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO THEM, BUT WHEN WE JUST SO DARE TO UPLOAD AVATARS THAT WE WANT TO UPLOAD BECAUSE WE LIKE THEM, THEN IT BECOMES A PROBLEM. Just forget about the predators yeah just forget em, these people uploading Avatars though, there's the real issue. It's fucking insane that they would rather take down peoples work, rather than banning the LITERAL PEOPLE CAUSING THE ISSUES IN THE FUCKING FIRST PLACE! Again, sorry if this post goes against anything TOS related to this site, as I am still relatively new here, but I figured I would spread awareness to this problem rather than just staying silent about it. VrChat, what the actual fuck, this is peoples work and for some people that make money off of doing this, THEIR FUCKING JOBS! It's fucking insane that they would rather take down the avatars and suspend people making them, rather than going after the literal pedos, sexual assaulters, Nazis, Racists, and ALL of those fucking people on their platform that spam Hitler avatars and have Avis that crash people. Anyways, be careful, if you have NSFW avis uploaded to your account, you're at risk of getting suspended or possibly banned.

Vrc has denied my appeal to be unsuspended, which is fine I can wait for a week, but what I would like to know is what I exactly did wrong, since I've been uploading avis for over a year and have somewhere over 80 avatars uploaded. None of this makes any sense to me of why they just now take "action" on my account, and even when I get unsuspended and I upload more avatars, am I still at risk of a possible perma ban? I don't even know what I did wrong in the first place as they're just vague as fuck in their reasoning. My guess is because of Adult avatars, but if we're not allowed to upload them, then why have the option to add that tag in the first place?!? They're marked ADULT avatars for a fucking reason, because little kids shouldn't be wearing them, so if that doesn't stop from accounts getting suspended/banned when they upload ADULT avatars with the ADULT tag, then why the FUCK, is it there in the god damn first place. This whole thing is so fucking stupid to me and is stressing me tf out. It's not the fact that I got suspended, I can wait a week, it's the matter of after I get my account back, is all my work gonna be gone? Are all my avatars going to just get fucking Thanos snapped off the face of the earth? If they aren't, am I allowed to keep them? Why the fuck did I get reported in the first place? It just...none of this makes any sense to me

Banning porn doesn’t even work in a puritanical light anyways. in the absence of explicit shit, people tend to pick up esoteric kinks. we brush sonic vore and yoshi toes under the table EVERY TIME because its totally super duper not "sexually explicit." you and i and EVERYONE ELSE knows what fetishes are, and that there will always be SOMETHING to scratch that monkey lust.

Short Answer: You went somewhere someone decided to report you for NSFW content. If you were in a non-private instance when reported, this will be noticed.

Just my opinion, anywhere that's "+", such as Friends+ and Group+, in my book, is still mildly "public". I actively avoid them if I expect lewdity. It's just asking for someone to accidentally join, and jump "scared" with bits out and about. I've seen it. I've heard people complain about it. Not many, but a few over the last couple years.

Then there's the trolls. Not saying you did do something someone hated, just the fact you might have been targeted, and the reports were noticed. It might have taken a few reports to raise an alert. There's no telling.

Keep NSFW avatars for private instances. If you're in a public instance or one where strangers might join, use casual avatars.
It's not that hard; I've been playing VRC for six years with NSFW avatars and I'm still alive.

1. I have never worn/done anything NSFW in a friends + instance or anything like that, I never go into group instances or public instances, I'm only ever in invite or invite + and even while there I never do anything unless alone with my gf, so no, it's not cause I did something in a public instance cause I only ever go into private instances

2. I have no beef with anyone and the only people that I ever go in instances with are really close friends of mine that I've known for a while, and I trust them and none of them have even been online for over a week and they wouldn't do anything to report me

3. I've been safe if I ever do go into publics and never wore any avatar that I uploaded that was not safe in a public instance

So, this was most likely either a troll which idk how they found me in the first place because I never did anything in public or Friends or Friends + instances to begin with, or, this was just a target ban, either way, I've literally done nothing wrong and haven't done anything not safe in any public instance or anything of the sorts

assuming innocence here, my guess is that this probably didn't mean anything, just that some dude's just a dick. many such cases, I bet you could appeal. mostly this wastes vrchat's time. it's not even an good troll, just some idiot getting kicks off low hanging fruit

someone just reported you or NSFW content, VRChat will only take action when someone reports you.
I have also been suspended but only one time when I accidentally uploaded a NSFW as public which caused it to get reported and my account being suspended for a week.

If it's not someone random public, it can be your friends you might have reported you for whatever reason they might have against you. People can be really petty about various things you never know to be honest. I would say there's a very high chance that someone you might know have reported you or your avatar/account for it.

Here are some tips for in the future if vrc are cracking down on nsfw

1- Know the instance you’re in. Anything public DOES NOT allow ANY type of NSFW, INCLUDING 18+ instances. If it can be found on the server list for the world, do not wear NSFW. Stick with private instances, like group privates(that allow that of course) to do nsfw. Just because it’s 18+ verified does not mean you can do NSFW.

2- Always have a sfw avatar in your favorites- If you’re anything like me and you like to play in worlds like a simple fishing world or giga, have a completely sfw avatar in your favorites, no nsfw toggles, no nsfw textures, nada, nothing, hell it’s even better if you can find an avatar that has its mesh cut where the nsfw bits would be at! I’d recommend you upload your own avi so you know what it looks like behind the scenes on both pc and quest and so you’re not guessing on weither not a quest user can see your dih or not

3- Know who you hang out with. If you are feeling comfy and you do change into your nsfw avi, just be careful, there are some people who genuinely believe that vrc is meant for kids, now am I going to sit here and say that it kids shouldn’t be on the site at all? No, I’m not, but that’s another story for another time. Be careful who you’re hanging around with, there are some people who genuinely believe NO nsfw should be on vrc, despite nsfw avi creators and what not being the backbone of this site.

That’s all from me for now. I haven’t been banned before(But I’ve only been playing since December of 2024 so and although I wear avatars with NSFW, the lowest I’ll go is a bikini) these tips kind of have kept me a float for as long as I could!

I do upload avis so, maybe it would be a good idea to upload a sfw avatar, also I only ever hang around my closest friends and barely ever step into publics ever Thank you for the tips though! :3

Hey I just made on a post on this, but its possible you got banned because some of your avatars contain "nudity under clothing." This is a new guideline for vrc about what avatars are considered nsfw. Even if you arent doing anything nsfw, or your avatar isnt nsfw presenting, if it contains adult bits and bobs under clothing and has the ability for those to be shown you can be hit with a ban/suspension. Hope this helps and stay mindful when uploading new avatars.

I just want to make sure its clear that vrc only allows nsfw on PRIVATE avatars in PRIVATE instances.

If your avatar was public it can get reported and delted and you get temp'd/banned.
this iis how it has been since the start and many of my friends have experinced this.

@RoxxiFoxxi Just to be clear I didn’t do that, I know it’s been a FUCKING WHILE since anyone has typed in this but that’s not the reason I got banned for a week. Apparently one of my friends invited their friend to mine and my gfs instance, and they saw our Avis and instead of asking us to switch, just flat out spam reported us. And since I uploaded the Avis for me and my gfs I was the one that got the ban and not her. I NEVER AND WILL NEVER, do anything like that in a public instance
