@Stoplight this is exactly the problem and there's an easy fix, just rebuild the avatar and don't rename anything. unity, for some reason only checks to see if the armature that was imported first is present. if you rename or restructure the armature it'll confuse unity and cause this error.
@Stoplight Weird, I always rename the avatar instead of keeping it as the avi's import name and have never had this issue before. Not sure what's different about this one.

if you rename the first in the hierarchy aka what's usually called the "armature" in the hierarchy it'll do this. it's no issue though, i should've already fixed it so heres the file: https://workupload.com/file/VRNaHFUJMT7 if it's not fixed ill see what i can do.
