Unfortunately a lot of public worlds are full of problematic people and kids (the ultimate evil). Its definitely one of VRChat's greatest issues, since adults that join either A) have to put in considerable effort/time beyond public worlds to find friends or B) They give up and don't come back.

The best thing you can do is google around and try to find discord groups that you can join. I joined groups that are specifically like age 25+ and have like VRFriday nights where people explore worlds and play games together to make friends in a more private and controlled setting (like a friend mixer). From there, people usually branch out and make smaller groups that become their more permanent "home". If you're trying to avoid people that are overtly sexual, I would recommend staying away from club groups and they tend to lean that direction. Look instead for world exploration groups or other groups that do more what suit your interests.

There are some drinking worlds and other, slightly more obscure, worlds that you can go to that are public that try and find people that are chill there, as your more likely to have luck in a situation where people are talking to random strangers as part of the world. I have also found success in choosing a more obscure world and setting it to public or group public if i'm with a group of friends. You're more likely to get random, nicer, lonely people that are looking for friends or a shared experience.
