It really depends. For me personally I have a small group of friends that I have been friends with for over a year at this point. Yeah you find degens and trolls, depending on how they present themselves is a really big tell. Usually the loud energetic ones are obviously more outgoing and stuff but I find a lot of them end up being temporary friendships because they are usually busy or constantly meeting new people (which is not a bad thing) It might be the energy you need but sometimes they don't know how to chill LOL. I've met so many "shy" people that open up, become energetic and they start playing games with me out of VRC. Some of the best friends I have were mute and didn't talk much at first. I agree people have to put in the effort though there's no real way to measure effort, people can seem like they are putting no effort at all but are actually trying very hard you know? ALSO I hate not knowing what will happen when I meet someone new because a lot of people on vrchat fall for people very easy and they will put a lot of effort and time into someone they just met and then disappear when they don't get what they wanted or needed. It's hard to make friends on there I agree but there's always someone who you just feel something about. You don't know what it is but it attracts you to them xD Look at their groups, meet the people they hang out with, stuff like that.
