Each hand expression (open, fist, rock, etc) are already premade in the head blendshapes so all you really have to do is make a copy of the VRC hand layer and then create 6-7 animation clips and just toggle the corresponding blendshape to the gesture your trying to make. And boom done! Just make sure you do all this on a duplicate avatar just in case something goes wrong.

This is one of the custom expressions I made using the various blendshapes instead of just having a copy and paste of each premade.
